Irwin Memorial Public School students take part in an Equine Assisted Learning Program

Through the Shania Twain Foundation, Irwin Memorial Public School students were able to take part in Austin Creek’s Equine Assisted Learning Program.

The one-of-a-kind program kicked off this fall at Austin Creek Equine Learning Centre in Huntsville. Two groups of Grade 6 and 7 students attended weekly for two-hour sessions over a six week period, developing valuable skills through equine-assisted learning, including communication, conflict resolution, team building, leadership, and decision making to name a few.

The program will also take place in the spring for an additional six weeks with Grade 4 and 5 students.

Funding for the program is through the Shania Twain Foundation, formerly Shania Kids Can, which provides financial assistance for students to attend programs such as this one and also helps fundraise to support organizations who serve vulnerable kids and youth within their communities.
