Welcome to BPS 2022-2023

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to our amazing Bracebridge Public School community! We hope that all of our
students and families have enjoyed time together this summer and are just as excited as we
are to return for the 2022-2023 school year!
This is a lengthy email. We would encourage you to read through Please welcome Nicole
Campbell, as Head Secretary, and Cari Mckelvey as Assistant Secretary.
By now, you will have received communication from BPS about your child’s classroom
placement/teacher.

First Morning Entry:
Many staff members will be outside on our first morning to assist with transitions back to school
and to clarify assigned teachers if you have not received this information. Please look to an
adult on the yard to determine your child’s placement for the year.
Your primary child may wish to know the following information for our first morning back
together:

Where students line up when the first bell rings
Teacher Grade Location
Lee/Pennie JK/SK Kindergarten yard
Racki/Finch JK/SK Kindergarten yard
Fernandez 1 Courtyard
French 1/2 Courtyard
Bonden 2 Courtyard
McIntosh 2/3 Courtyard

Junior students should make their way to the grass by the playground and Intermediate
students to the basketball court (tarmac area) to be organized into their classes. Students who
are unsure where to be, should look to an adult for assistance.
Health & Safety:
The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. Please know that our school and
school vehicles will continue to be cleaned thoroughly following the enhanced cleaning
protocols already in place.

It is recommended that staff, students, and visitors continue to self-screen every day before
attending school using the COVID-19 school and child care screening tool. Following public
health guidance, individuals should stay home if they are feeling ill to prevent the spread
of illness.

Masks are not required for students, staff, and visitors in schools, or on student transportation
but may be worn by anyone who chooses to wear one. Free masks will continue to be available
at school for students and staff. There are some circumstances when wearing a mask at school
is required. The screening tool will indicate when these circumstances apply.
Our local public health units continue to recommend getting vaccinated for COVID-19 as a way
to lower the risk of serious illness. Additionally, they have created useful webpages for families
that can be accessed below:

● Please use the buzzer at the front door to communicate with our office staff (ie. picking
up students, late arrivals, volunteers).
● Families are reminded that messages should be relayed to students via the office.
Please support these efforts by reminding your child that his/her personal cell phone

should be turned off and stored in backpacks upon entering the yard in the morning and
should remain in the backpack until dismissal at the end of the day. Please know that if
a personal device is seen, students will be reminded to turn the device off and to put it in
his/her backpack. Ongoing challenges with this routine will result in the phone being
taken for the day.
● Remember that parking at the front of the school is limited to 15 min with no idling, as
per the signage.

Contact with the school will be limited on Friday September 2nd, with all staff returning to
Bracebridge Public School on our first day (Tuesday, September 6th).
We look forward to working with you to support your child this year. Please do not hesitate to
reach out to your child’s teacher or to us if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours in Education,

Mrs. Hills & Mrs. Wiles
