Dear TLDSB parents/guardians,
This week (May 4–8), Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is proud to celebrate two important recognition weeks: Education Week and National Mental Health Week.
It is no coincidence that these two celebrations happen simultaneously. Academic success and emotional well-being are deeply interconnected; a student who feels supported and resilient is a student who is ready to learn and thrive.
Mental Health Week: “Come Together Canada”
The Canadian Mental Health Association’s theme this year is a call to action: Come Together, Canada, which focuses on strengthening belonging, reducing isolation, and supporting well-being, because research shows that human connection strengthens mental health.
At TLDSB, we recognize a simple but powerful truth that while one in five people may experience mental illness, five in five people have mental health. Our dedicated Mental Health Team is active in every school, working daily to provide students with the tools and strategies they need to prioritize their well-being.
We know that a child’s mental health journey is a team effort. Together, we’ve aimed to increase knowledge and remove barriers to understanding and supporting mental health by hosting several learning opportunities throughout the school year to date, including:
- An in-person event that took place in September 2025 with author and renowned speaker, Katherine Martinko, highlighting strategies to manage screens.
- A webinar in October 2025 specifically for Kindergarten parents/guardians on supporting social-emotional development.
- A Positive Parenting Webinar Series with three sessions throughout the school year that focuses on topics, including on worry or anxiety, building our stretch zones, and the benefits of positive stress. The last session is taking place virtually on Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. and you do not need to have attended any other session to join this one.
We encourage you to explore our Mental Health and Well-Being page for ongoing resources and support. You can also visit School Mental Health Ontario’s By your side page for a number of parents/guardian resources.
Education Week: Celebrating the Journey
Education Week is our annual opportunity to reflect on the vital role schools play in shaping our future. From the first steps into Junior Kindergarten, to the proud moment of high school graduation, TLDSB students, supported by staff and their parents/guardians, are working hard to grow every single day.
TLDSB’s Strategic Action Plan outlines TLDSB’s unwavering commitment to student achievement, well-being, equity, and inclusion. Educators, working in collaboration with parents/ guardians and community partners support all students to develop the knowledge, competencies and skills necessary to build healthy, thriving futures.
TLDSB school and student success stories are highlighted on TLDSB’s News page on the website.
On behalf of our trustees and senior leadership team, thank you to our parents and guardians, students, staff and community partners. Your commitment to your child’s education and well-being is what makes our schools strong. Together, we are building a community where every student feels seen, supported, and ready for the future.
Sincerely,
Wes Hahn
